I didn’t know about this song until I do a research on the topic of “mother son wedding song”. I love the lyrics. I have no doubt my Mom would love it to. It sounds just like her tell me face to face. As a matter of fact, even now whenever my wife and I see her, she sometimes reminds me, in her own not-so-gentle way, to be the man, the husband as reflected in the song.
Be kind, be sweet Be a gentle man Care and share And always be fair And remember though you now Have taken a wife You will always be my son My Loving son
As Mikki Viereck says on her site:
“The song that started it all - this is the first wedding song ever written especially for the groom and his mom. "A Song For My Son" has been heard on such television programs as NBC's Today Show, QVC Shopping Network, JEOPARDY and Lifetime Television, and has been endorsed by hundreds of newspapers, magazines and radio programs nationwide.
This song is traditionally performed at the wedding reception following the father and daughter dance, but its sentiment can be expressed any time.”
Any bands performing at a wedding during the parent dance mostly recommend this song.
